Hi, my name is Hrag Mikkel and I’m currently living in Beirut. I’ve started my musical career as a bassist in a band when I was 14 years old. We used to play alternative and progressive rock music in pubs and festivals around Lebanon. At that point I had no idea about electronic music and how it was created. It all made sense to me when I attended my first event of John Digweed at the age of 16.

Q: How would you describe the Beirut scene in your point of view?

I have to say that I’m really impressed by the music scene in Beirut. People are more open to different genres in music. We have lots of uprising talents that are playing their own unique sound, giving a variety to the listeners. We also have one of the best clubs/venues in the world. One thing I’d like to mention though is that artists in Beirut need more support from our promoters, audiences and even DJs. We should all connect and grow together no matter what genre of music we listen to.

Q: What was your all-time favorite show in Beirut from the past? And why?

My favorite show in Beirut happened last summer at The Garten. I had a last-minute call from one of my good friends Romax to cover the night. It turned out to be one of the most remarkable nights I’ve had in Beirut so far. I played a 5-hour spontaneous set and just didn’t want it to end. A big thanks to the crowd and every energy involved.

Q: Recommend a hidden gem in Lebanon that you've always wanted to throw a rave in

A private location in Beqaatet Ashkout where I’ve had so many good memories.

Q: What's the Purpose/Message behind the sound you play and produce?

The purpose behind the sound I produce is to express life through music. As we all know life is a never-ending roller coaster. We all go through different phases and emotions in our lifetime. My Purpose is to express those feelings whether it’s happy dark or sad. You just have to ride the wave and understand the meaning behind it.

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

Roger Waters!

Q: If you were to have a super power, what would it be and why?

Definitely Flying. It would just make my life and any other artist’s life easier. What’s better than grabbing your back pack and fly wherever you want without any restrictions? Enjoying the view from above while hanging out with your friends (birds).I also love exploring different cities and cultures because it inspires me to create music. It’s all about the experiences that I go through.

Q: If you had the chance of doing a film score from the past, what movie would you choose and why?

That’s a tough question but for some reason Apocalypto popped directly into my mind. I guess I’ve always been fascinated by the ancient civilizations and cultures from past generations and Mel Gibson delivers it in the finest way possible.

Q: If you weren't a DJ and Music Producer right now what would you be pursuing instead?

Basketball Player.

Q: Fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners don't know

I usually don’t go clubbing unless I’m playing music.

Q: Tell us about your upcoming plan and releases for this year

After a great success of my latest collaboration with my dear friend Pambouk, we are planning to prepare another 3 track EP for Hoomidaas Records to be released in the end of 2020. I’m also working on different remixes for labels I’ve respected and supported throughout the years as well as experimenting on some originals for future releases. Also, I recently thought to give one-to-one private lessons in my home studio for beginners and advanced music lovers. If anyone is interested please feel free to hit me up for more details.

Q: Do you have any questions you would like to ask our readers?

What is good music according to you?

YOU: SHARE YOUR ANSWER BELOW

Q: Who do you want us to interview next from Beirut?

It could be any producer or performer who still didn’t get the chance to expose their talent. I think it’s essential to hear them out and have their point of view about the music scene in Lebanon.
