Keeping its global focus front and centre, Jamie Jones’ Hottrax continues to serve up the good by introducing a fresh collaboration between Texas-based duo Mellizos and Spanish talent Alex Atenciano. Together, the trio unite to deliver ‘Get Lit’, a slick, groove-driven three-tracker that captures the label’s instinct for championing distinctive sounds made for the dancefloor.
Twin brothers Mellizos join forces here with Madrid’s Alex Atenciano, one of Spain’s promising new voices, whose vibrant productions have found a home on labels such as Be One Records and Happy Techno Music, with support from Marco Carola, Chelina Manuhutu, and SOSA.
Opening with ‘Get Lit’, the title cut locks into a rolling rhythm from the start, rich chords with crisp percussion and infectious vocalsnippets. ‘Chatter’ keeps the energy levels simmering, driving momentum through tight drum programming and an elastic groove, before ‘Sabor De Noche’ closes the package with funky riffs, warm sonics, and playful energy perfect for notable moments.
Q: Please introduce yourself
My name is Alex Atenciano, and I’m one of the emerging names in the Spanish electronic music scene. I was born in Madrid in 1998 and grew up in a small town southeast of the city, where my musical sensibility began to take shape from an early age. I was heavily influenced by the music my parents introduced me to — a blend of sounds ranging from the 80s to the most current electronic music.
By the age of 20, I was already performing at some of the most important festivals in Spain, including the renowned A Summer Story, which helped establish me as an artist with an energetic and fresh sound deeply connected to the dance floor.
My style, rooted in vibrant and groovy Tech House, has captured the attention of various international labels. I’ve released music on more than 20 labels such as HOTTRAXX, AND DANCE, HAPPY TECHNO, BE ONE RECORDS, DROP LOW RECORDS, ARCADIA MUSIC, and SOMETHIN’ LIGHT, among many others — solidifying a career with a growing global projection.
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?
I would love to have coffee with Fred Again, because I think he is such a creative and brilliant mind that you could learn so much from his knowledge and, above all, from his way of looking at life.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
The power to teleport myself, without a doubt. I think everything would be much easier, especially if I have to DJ in different places. Resting would be much more useful and more environmentally friendly, hahaha.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. Because it's one of my favorite trilogies and I think it would make the child in me happy.
Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?
On a personal level, my family are the people who have always supported me unconditionally and who have helped me fulfill the dream I had when I was 12 years old.
In terms of musical inspiration, Skrillex marked a turning point in my decision to dedicate myself to what I do, which is to convey all my feelings in the DJ booth and allow people to see themselves reflected in me.
Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?
Being 12 years old, in my room, with my two best childhood friends watching a Skrillex aftermovie video, and telling them that I wanted to be him so I could travel around the world and convey everything I had inside me through my music.
I still have a long way to go, but what I am sure of is that I am on the right path to where I want to go.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?
Be patient and persistent. This is a marathon, not a sprint. If this is what you are passionate about, if it is what drives you and you want to achieve something, you have to work very hard every day and sacrifice many things. When you least expect it, the day will come when you say to yourself, “It was worth it.”
Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?
I have so many unforgettable moments, but there is one in particular because it was the moment that reaffirmed that this was where I wanted to be. It was my debut at one of the most important festivals in my country, A Summer Story. It stands out from the rest because I performed as a new artist and I felt an enormous sense of happiness during those two hours that my set lasted, seeing the faces of the people enjoying themselves, my closest friends and family, everyone dancing with me and feeling what I was feeling... It's indescribable, and I remember it deeply because when I finished DJing, people stayed to applaud me, and I cried with emotion for a long time.
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
Very much so. I've always been someone who has loved house music as my main style, but when I started producing, I really enjoyed trying out new aspects of house such as tech house, Latin tech, minimal deep... At the end of the day, I love music and what drives me is what I like to do, what my feelings guide me towards.
Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?
Without a doubt, drum and bass is one of my favorite genres. The reason why is, as I've been explaining, the feelings it evokes in me when I listen to it are incredible and move my soul.
Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
1. First Of The Year - Skrillex
2. Levels - Avicii
3. One (Your Name) - Swedish House Mafia
These are three songs that had a big impact on me when I was little and changed my feelings toward electronic music. They are quite different from each other, but they have that something that moved me inside.
Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?
The quarries in my town, hahaha. They're a kind of desert mountain range, similar to the Grand Canyon, which is spectacular for hosting a rave or festival.
Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?
We recently released on Hottrax, Jamie Jones's great label, and now I'm about to release on Be One Records, a very powerful label nationally, and I'm working very hard on several projects that will see the light of day sooner rather than later in incredible places and with incredible artists.
As a DJ, I'm touring several cities in my country, and I'm convinced that in 2026 we'll achieve a lot. With hard work and perseverance, everything will come together.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?
I'm a huge fan of Chai Latte, I could drink it all day long, hahaha.
