Since launching her music career in 2021, Amal Nemer has already released a steady stream of music on labels including Moon Harbour, Glasgow Underground, Nervous Records, Made In Miami and Farris Wheel, while breaking into Beatport’s Top 100 with standout tracks such as ‘Shot Por Mi’, ‘Suavecito’ and ‘Amal’s Dream’.
Originally trained in architecture, Amal’s creative instincts and deep connection to sound ultimately led her toward DJing and production, where she has developed a distinctive style that blends her Arabic roots with modern tech house grooves. Her breakthrough came in 2021 with her debut release on the legendary Nervous Records, a moment that unexpectedly launched her music career.
'Devils' is Amal Nemer's new EP, a bold exploration of sound that ventures beyond her signature style. Featuring two tracks, 'Devils' and 'Just You,' the project was born from playful experimentation, letting fresh, jazzy influences take the lead. The result is something both sensual and uplifting, carrying the intimacy and personal expression that define her music while charting exciting new sonic territory.
Q: Please introduce yourself
Hey! My name is Amal Nemer. I’m a DJ and music producer born in Venezuela, with Lebanese and Syrian parents. I also have a degree in architecture. I’m passionate about all types of art!
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?
I would love to have a convo with Solomun. He also started at 27, like me. I’d ask him if he had moments of doubt, and I would love to see how he is in a normal life.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I would LOVE to be able to stop time (but not age while time is stopped). Imagine having so many shows and just stopping time to sleep a bit, go to the gym, or make fire new tunes before a show. Or if equipment gets damaged, just stop time and reconnect it haha.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
I’d go for something like Sex and the City as it would be fun, sexy, and a little chaotic. I’d bring a more underground, hypnotic sound to it and make it feel fresh but still playful.
Q: Who influenced you the most in your music career and why?
Artists outside electronic music, to be honest, like Dua Lipa and Karol G. I love everything they represent.
Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?
That’s a deep question. The best short answer would be my consistency. I have really good habits, and I don’t know how to stop until I get what I want.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?
You really have to love the music; that’s what’s going to keep you going. That, and being truly disciplined. This career is fun, but you need a centered mind to succeed.
Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?
I had a really unforgettable show in Cádiz. That one was for the books. I felt so connected. And honestly, the afters with friends are key, you learn so much just being there, having a good time, not thinking, just flowing.
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
It has evolved a lot, but I’m still rooted in tech house, now incorporating more elements of house, guitar, bass, and strings. I feel like my taste and ear keep getting better, and so does my overall persona. I have a much clearer vision of what I want now, especially in the studio.
Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?
If I had to, I’d go more into pure house. But honestly, my sets are a journey through different genres.
Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
1- Nu – Man O To (Be Svendsen Remix),
2- Mano Le Tough – Havana 1959,
3- Clap Your Hands (Solomun Remix),
4- Ilario Alicante – Vacaciones en Chile.
These tracks made me truly understand electronic music. Forever classics.
Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?
Canaima. One of the wonders of the world. A rave there would be pure magic.
Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?
I have an exciting release on Nervous Records on April 24: Fancy + Eyes Wide Open, two bombs, in my opinion.
Also, I have a release on Mood Child with Twenty Six, Bésame Lento. A beautiful track where I also sing. I think that one’s going to stay.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?
I’m really quiet before a show; I don’t talk much. Also, when I draw, I can see something and recreate it exactly. The same happens with what I hear, so I’m careful not to listen to bad mixes because they get stuck in my head.
