Q: Please introduce yourself

Hi, I'm Carbajal, DJ and producer from Mexico City. I'm 26 years old and I simply love all music. Also, I'm a fan of dogs, cats and I love football.

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

Without a doubt, I would love to share a coffee with Marco Carola. His influence has been a constant source of inspiration in my musical career. In that encounter, I think I could learn a lot from his experience and unique vision in the world of electronic music.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

I think I would choose the ability to control time. This would allow me to not only efficiently manage my daily responsibilities, but also to extend those moments of fun and connection that I consider most precious. It would be like having the key to balancing productivity and fully enjoying the special moments in life.

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?

My choice would undoubtedly be "Blade Runner 2049". Not only has this film made an impact on me visually, but its unique atmosphere and futuristic narrative provide the perfect backdrop for exploring avant-garde sounds and electronic textures in a soundtrack.

Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And who has been the most influential in your personal life?

In my musical career, the most impactful influence has undoubtedly been Marco Carola. Watching his long sessions and witnessing how he dominates the dancefloor with different aspects of house, tech house and minimal is an art in itself. I dream of becoming a reference in the music scene, just like him, but always keeping my own identity and style. In my personal life, my mum has definitely been the biggest influence. Even though she doesn't have a deep knowledge of the electronic music world, she has always been my biggest supporter from the beginning. On my birthday, she gave me my first DJ controller and my first computer, marking the beginning of this dream that is slowly materializing. Her unconditional support has been the driving force behind every step I have taken in my career and personal life.

Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?

My journey has been a combination of passion, dedication and the unwavering support of those who believed in me, especially my family and friends. From that gift from my mum that started it all, to endless hours of practice and learning, every step has been driven by the love of music and the constant desire to improve. Challenges have been an integral part, but have strengthened my resolve. Every experience, good or bad, has helped shape the path that has led me to where I am today.

Q: Everyone goes through ups and downs, what’s one habit you adopt to push through the downs?

In difficult times, I find refuge by immersing myself more deeply in music. Listening to artists like Michael Jackson, exploring genres like disco, salsa and boleros becomes my therapy for inspiration. Overcoming these ups and downs is a process we all face, and at first it can be challenging. However, I find that immersing myself in my favourite places during walks also attracts a lot of inspiration, helping me to gradually find my way through those difficult times.

Q: What is one pro work ethic that you would recommend to the readers/listeners?

I would definitely stress the importance of consistency and constant commitment to self-improvement. In this world, few people understand that behind a good track there are sleepless nights and many challenges. The daily dedication to study, put what you learn into practice and persist despite the difficulties are key elements. It is a constant reminder that success in music does not come easy, but with a solid work ethic, any obstacle can be overcome.

Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?

My musical style has followed an evolution marked by a constant search for innovation. Although I don't aim to invent something completely new, my focus is on uniquely incorporating Latin rhythms in the context of tech house and minimal deep tech.

Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?

Although my main focus is on electronic music, I would venture into the urban genre, specifically reggaeton. The vibrant energy and diversity of influences in this genre are intriguing. Exploring the world of reggaeton would not only be an exciting challenge, but would also open new creative doors to enrich my future productions within the urban realm.

Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?

"Q Factor" by Stefano Noferini: It was one of the first techno tracks that caught my attention with its intense and captivating sounds.

"El Ritmo De Verdad" by Lego: I discovered this song when I saw the Martinez Brothers playing it in a video. The energy and the madness it provoked in the crowd left me in awe.

"One Love" by David Guetta feat Estelle: Although I was only 14 years old, this song already attracted me to electronic music. I still remember those days at school, and this track is part of those good memories. These songs marked my start in electronic music.

Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?

Definitely the beaches of Oaxaca, Mexico, especially puerto escondido. Not only does this place offer some of the most breathtaking sunsets in Mexico, but its cool and pleasant climate creates the perfect setting to enjoy a rave to the fullest. The combination of natural beauty and the energy of electronic music would be an unforgettable experience for anyone looking for magical moments.

Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?

I'm excited to share that my upcoming release, "Nunu EP", through Jamie Jones' Paradise Ibiza label, is a special milestone in my career. This dream come true marks a before and after in my career, pushing me to push my musical boundaries. It is a significant project that motivates me to constantly raise the quality of my music. For this year, I plan to tour the most prominent venues of the electronic music scene in Mexico and expand my music to other countries, I'm eager to take my style to new frontiers!

Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?

A curious fact is that, despite my dedication to electronic music, I am a passionate football fan. I'd rather stay in to watch the games of my mighty Águilas del América than go out clubbing or partying - the thrill of football has a special place in my heart!

Bonus Q Powered by Pioneer DJ: How did Pioneer DJ influence your career and what is your favorite Pioneer DJ gear?

Pioneer DJ's influence on my career was instant and significant. My first foray into mixing started with a Pioneer controller my mum gave me. Although it was the most basic model, it marked the beginning of my first mixes and endless hours of practice. Nowadays, my favorite Pioneer DJ equipment is the CDJ 3000 along with the mixer. CDJ 3000 along with the V10 mixer and the jewel, the RMX-1000.
