14 FAKTS INTERVIEW WITHCHANEY

11/07/2025

Theo Altieri, aka CHANEY, fuses melodic songwriting with rave‑inspired house and tech‑house. Signed to Skint, Insomniac, Toolroom and Defected, he’s known for euphoric, crowd‑moving tracks and radio‑ready mixes. With releases on major labels, global club dates and a knack for stadium‑scale hooks, CHANEY is a modern revivalist of British rave.

Returning to the label after last year’s ‘Lose My Number’ with the unmistakable Candi Staton, CHANEY drops ‘Prayer’ on Toolroom. A gospel infused House production that clearly takes influences from the past, whilst combining them with CHANEY’s exceptional production techniques to ensure a future dancefloor weapon!

Q: Please introduce yourself

I’m CHANEY - A Producer and DJ from the southwest of the UK.

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

I’d probably say Liam Gallagher and I’d probably prefer it to be a beer - imagine the conversation.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Teleporting - if I could teleport from where I am now to anywhere in the world it would not only make life easier in terms of shows, sessions - it would be pretty cool.

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?

One of my favorite films is The Beach - that soundtrack is unreal and there’s a lot of records on there which I wish I made. Film scoring is different - that’s a hard one!

Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?

To be totally honest - one of my very first idols was Keith Moon from The Who, without him I probably would’ve never really continued to play the drums which is my first instrument. I started super young at 7 years old and I remember being mesmerized by his drumming.

Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?

I started off as a drummer when I was really young - playing in bands through to my teenage years when I started songwriting and playing as a solo artist. I would’ve been around 14/15 when I got my first laptop with a very early version of logic on it - then really started to delve into producing my own music.

As I started getting a bit older my musical taste started to grow and I started discovering “dance music” with the likes of Disclosure, Jamie XX, Julio Bashmore, etc. And started to experiment with my own productions more. It was this point I started to realize that I was actually quite good at making it - so started my project CHANEY back in 2016 ish. I put out my first EP followed by 39 Times - which really kick started everything for me.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting their music career?

Carry on your own path, have fun andddd - quality and consistency!!! The winning combination.

Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?

I’ll always remember my debut at EDC Las Vegas a couple of years back - that was my first ever show in the US, as well as my first time in Vegas. I’ll never forget the build up to it and starting my set - it was one of the most surreal experiences to date.

Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?

As you get older I think your music taste is always growing - that being said, I also really know what I love, and what I don’t like. So I guess that makes me much more concise with making music and also DJing.

Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?

I follow lots of different genres so that’s a hard one to answer. I don’t really think anyone should follow just one genre!

Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?

Tricky to pick 3 - but some definitive records I remember really turning my head were Julio Bashmore - Au Seve, James Blake - CMYK, SBTRKT - Hold On (all around that 2010-2012 era)

Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?

Glastonbury festival generally holds a special place in my heart since I was young - but the south east corner in particular for a “special place”.

Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?

I have a super exciting rest of the year ahead - next release up is a big colab with my french brother Dombresky with the legend KLP on vocals, dropping next month on insomniac records. I’m playing shows in Ibiza, Germany, UK, and US which I’m very excited for.

Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?

My desert island dish is Pasta with a red sauce and parmesan.
