14 FAKTS INTERVIEW WITHDachshund & Chaton

Interviewed by GBS , August.19.2021

Q: How would you describe yourself in one word?

Dachshund: Passionate

Chaton: meow

Q: What was the driving force that got you into Music Production and when?

Dachshund: In the 90s, Dub music literally hit me and drove me to explore music production. First I played guitar in reggae/dub bands and then started composing with studio gear, learning to mix as well. Since then I never lost the feeling.

Chaton:  Early 2000s, I was already DJing for a while and I wanted to get deeper, to learn how to create sounds. My mate Reno had a nice studio and we started messing around making beats. I remember some nice smokey  afternoon sessions. So it was basically friendship and raving that got me into producing rather than a career plan or whatever. Passion is my driving force. I don’t have any music degree.

Q: Analog or Digital? And why?

Dachshund: Both! My studio is full of analog gear. I’m lucky to have been collecting synths, drum machines and keeping them for 25 years. But I also use digital synths, DAW and plugins a lot too and I need it in my composition and mixing process. The funny fact is that in the analog or digital world, every single instrument has something special that no others have, so it’s just your part of the job to find out which one you feel more comfortable to work with and get the best out of it.

Chaton: Analog. I love vinyl, the color of the sound, the object. I also like analog machines in the studio as well… it’s warm, you can feel the electricity, the breath/ noise between elements. It’s not perfect but it’s so good! I have a nice connection with Dachshund in the studio,  he’s a talented studio engineer and knows how to get the best from both worlds (analog & digital). Usually he records me when I jam in the studio and he makes the magic happen!

Q: What's your favorite venue and why does it stand out from the rest?

Dachshund: So difficult to choose only one… but at the moment it is a venue in my home town Geneva called “audio”. There is always a great lineup from big names to local DJsl and I have so much pleasure to play there. I feel the energy of the warm and reactive crowd.

Chaton: right now? Our small hidden private party somewhere in Geneva. Because being all together and  dancing free to loud music is something special in 2021!

Q: If you were to have a superpower, what would it be and why?

Dachshund: Time traveling, to get some fresh air from thousands of  years ago.

Chaton: Being high without side effects.

Q: If you had to play 1 more track at your favorite club, what track would it be and why?

Dachshund: Glimpse - Drifting - Planet E. This track is a gem, beautiful, and puts  you in a perfect smooth and dreamy mood.

Chaton: Joe Smooth | Promised Land. It’s the perfect timeless house track. Can’t get rid of it. Great instru and lyrics with a strong meaning.    Q: 1 person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

Dachshund: with Mulatu Astatke

Chaton: I would dream to have a beer with Kurt Cobain.

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score from the past, what movie would you choose and why?

Dachshund: Probably Blade Runner. Because it happens in the future and has a special aesthetic, tension and slow paced so perfect to inspire a film score.

Chaton: Footloose (the original one). Set in 1984, a small town where dancing is illegal. Really love this movie and the energy. Plus the topic is so current. We can easily switch from the original dance/pop to house, techno & electro.

Q: Recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would fit a perfect rave?

Dachshund: The washing bus station at the Jonction area in Geneva.

Chaton: Usine Kugler in Geneva.

Q: What are 3 tracks that got you into electronic music?

Dachshund:

Jah Shaka - Promise Dub

Photek - ni ten ichi ryu

Mathew Jonson - Typerope

Chaton:

Jaydee - Plastic Dreams

Jam & Spoon - Follow Me

Off - Electrica Salsa

Q: Tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for this year.

Dachshund: next one that is probably out when you read this lines is « Bleeping In Me » with my mate Chaton on Rebellion, that I’m particularly happy with. The plan for this year is first to sort out the numerous unfinished tracks sleeping in my computer and decide which ones will have to be completed and which one should definitely go to the trash ;-)

Chaton: Doing parties with my guys in Geneva. Enjoying summertime on the lake shore.

Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners don't know.

Dachshund: I practice wheel throwing (Ceramic)

Chaton: I am a serious wine enthusiast. My life is about wine & music.

Q: Last but not least, do you have any questions for the viewer/reader?

Dachshund: what’s your favorite food after partying?

Chaton: Hey guys,  what’s your tip for a nice wine bar/ restaurant in beirut?  Need to discover lebanese wines!
