14 FAKTS INTERVIEW WITHEDIP

07/10/2025

Romanian DJ/producer EdiP makes his label debut on Ilario Alicante’s Sound D’Elite imprint with ‘Lock Y Phone’. The two-track EP sees the rising artist continue his evolution from minimal grooves to a sharper, festival-ready sound. Having been ranked amongst Beatport’s Top 10 Minimal Artists of 2024, the Bucharest-born talent has quickly positioned himself as an exciting addition within the new wave of emerging European talent, with releases on Take Notes, Deeperfect, and Moan gaining support from global heavyweights including Marco Carola, Jamie Jones, and Joseph Capriati.

On ‘Lock Y Phone’, tightly wound percussion, warped vocal chops, and rolling basslines come together for a track built with dancefloor tension in mind. ‘I Know U’ takes a more groove-led direction, weaving bouncing drums into a hypnotic late-night workout. With both tracks highlighting different shades of his sound, ‘Lock Y Phone’ signals an assured first step on Sound D’Elite for EdiP.

Q: Please introduce yourself

EdiP here, from Romania. Let’s just say I’m a computer nerd who loves to party.

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

I’d go with the queen of disco, Donna Summer. She’s one of the first to lay the foundation for house and electronic music, without which, what we do today, wouldn’t be possible

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Teleporting - So I could be anywhere in the world in seconds. Would really help with touring.

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?

I’d go with The Matrix. The whole idea of bending reality and creating your own world feels close to what music does.

Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?

Everyone in my life had some kind of influence on my career, but if I had to name artists, I’d say John Summit and Mau P. They’re genuine guys who truly love music and took it to superstar levels with pure passion. Everything just clicked for them. Of course, they’re not the only ones - the industry is full of amazing artists like: Jamie Jones, Marco Carola, Ilario Alicante,  who inspire me in different ways.

Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?

My journey started when I was 16 and downloaded FL Studio out of curiosity. That’s when it all clicked. I was a producer first, then decided to become a DJ. What got me here is my passion for music production - always trying to do something different and always having fun with it.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?

When things get tough and it feels like your career isn’t moving, that’s when you need to push the hardest. There will always be ups and downs, but if you survive the downs, the ups will always come.

Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?

One of the most unforgettable moments was my first time playing Sunwaves Festival. Especially that sunrise set after 6 AM - the energy was unreal. Sunwaves runs 24 hours nonstop, so you can imagine the vibe.

Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?

My style is constantly evolving, and honestly, I don’t even know exactly how or why - it just happens naturally. I believe every artist should change their sound because change is evolution.

Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?

I’d dive into all genres to be honest, but if I had to pick one, I’d try blending melodic techno with minimal.

Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?

1- Eats Everything feat. Tiga vs Audion – Dancing.

2- Coyu & Edu Imbernon – El Baile Alemán.

3- Ilario Alicante - Vacaciones en Chile.

The first two hooked me with their percussion and how they focused purely on groove without relying on melody. And the third? No explanation needed - it’s a staple in the industry.

Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?

There are so many amazing places here, but I’d pick The Emerald Lake. The view is unreal, and it would make for a one-of-a-kind rave experience.

Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?

I wanna tell you everything, but I can’t say too much yet… just watch and see.

Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?

Fun fact: I make my best productions standing up. That’s why I got myself a height-adjustable desk, haha.
