Flashmob has always been at the forefront of electronic music, constantly evolving his sound to stay ahead of the curve. Drawing inspiration from the 90s, he's cultivated a unique musical identity that blends nostalgic influences with a fresh, innovative edge.
After a string of successful releases, including collaborations with major labels like Hot Creations, Toolroom, and Repopulate Mars, Flashmob's sound has resonated worldwide. His tracks dominate dance floors from intimate underground clubs to massive festivals, including Tomorrowland, where his energy and presence shine. Never one to rest on his laurels, Flashmob has built his own label, Flashmob Records, and continues to push the boundaries of electronic music through both his studio work and high-energy DJ sets.
Flashmob drops Stories About Music, a raw tribute to house roots and the sound of today, with a vocal nod to the late Will. Built for 2025, with great early supoport, and true to the groove.
Q: Please introduce yourself
Hello my name is Alessandro Magani, Flashmob in Music and I am Dj Producer based in Milano Italy; I am also Flashmob Records label owner. I am half Irish and half Italian and I’ve been travelling the world since 2011 under this alias and for many years before under other names.
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?
Danny Tenaglia; in my opinion one of the best ever; I’ve seen him play at Space Miami and it’s really impressive how specific he can be in his music selection moving through several genres as well. He is also a very kind and humble person that for me says it all. It’s as if he could play for ever.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I wouldn’t mind being able to reset my brain... The pressure, the travelling, sleep depravation and long hours really take a toll on your body and even more on your mind... Being able to reset would mean being able too walk out of the loop to then re entering refreshed. I realize it’s not easy to understand all of this if you’ve never been on the road with a dj but it’s super challenging.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
Trainspotting for sure. It’s an old film that has become a cult in the movie culture. The energy of the film and the essence of it is very inspiring to me. The original soundtrack is also one of my favourite... “Born Slippy” is a masterpiece by Underworld so I guess we’ll leave it at that :-)
Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?
Kraftwerk, Jean-Michel Jarre, Bronski Beat, Pet Show Boys (that I have had the honour to remix) and many bands of that late ’80 era, especially Frankie Goes To Hollywood... I’m in love with all the industrial movement of the early ’90s from northern England including the techno side too.
In a more electronic narrow way, I’d say Masters At Work and all the early 2000 scene has been a huge influence for me too, Erick Morillo, and the London Underground movement that I lived as a boy are part of my DNA.
Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?
I’ve been buying records and playing my local sporting Club since I was fourteen... I then went to law school and graduated in 2003; worked in a law firm but didn’t really like it. On the 26th of December 2004 I was in Phuket, Thailand, when the tsunami hit... I promised myself that if I survived I’d live my life differently and despite my age I decided to follow my dream; fast forward twenty years and here I am talking to you guys!
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?
Study and be patient. Only make moves thinking about them three times; find the right team and be loyal. Longevity in music is possible but you need to work super hard and do the right things. I believe the accelerator is having people that love you by your side and developing the talent of feeling free to be yourself...entirely.
Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?
If I were to choose one and one only I would say when I played for Jamie Jones’ Paradise at Tomorrowland. The set up in the middle of a forest was insane and the energy of the people holding flags from all over the world was touching... It was like playing a football world cup game. Truly unforgettable.
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
Initially I was a house purist then I started being interested in other genres and this influenced me a lot... I have now gone back to house music but in a modern way; I have the past in mind but it’s all about the future... I’ve always been like that. If you are interested in anything you study the past and then try to be part of the future right? I feel I did exactly this... And my mission is to be part of the evolution of House / Tech House with my productions, sets and label.
Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?
I would choose techno; I love making techno tracks. Sometimes I am just in that mood. I love the minimalist approach and journey you can create with fewer elements... It’s very pure and refreshing to me. It also allows me to be extremely crazy and creative.
Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
1- Joe Smooth - Promised Land
Best song ever IMO... It’s pure love and for me what house music should feel like.
2- Celeda - The Underground
A proper dance floor record that represents how a tune should evolve within itself; it’s so perfectly balanced.
3- Dennis Ferrer - Transitions
This represents the power and the energy of how sets used to be and should be... Long journeys that had a sense because of the whole... This record is very meaningful to the little part of the industry left that still cares for music.
Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?
Perfect question... I have been collaborating with a friend (Clubber Agency) this past year and we are putting on proper raves in Northern Italy and in the last one in Milan near the San Siro stadium in a park called Monte Stella was insane... 5000 people pulled up and it was like being in a movie. You can check it out on my Instagram.
Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?
I am about to release my new single “Stories About Music” on my label Flashmob records with a vocal from the late vocalist Will. I fell in love with these vocals immediately for what they say and stand for and decided to license them and use them on my music. The release is on the 24th of October.
On the touring side I am going to play a few gigs at ADE for Claptone and for Adapt Music Management then off to Temptation. Festival in Ireland and Japan USA and South America... Should be going to Australia in the new year.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?
I can imitate... So I spend my time on tour making faces or imitations of the people that surround me or even of DJs I see online... Some are nice some a little less actually. I might get my tour manager Marco to film me once... Should be fun, but I won’t name names!
