Ilario Alicante’s Sound D’Elite welcomes Bilbao-based Gobaxx to the imprint with his ‘Survive’ EP. His infectious approach to DJing has earned him appearances at Elrow and a residency at Sala Sonora, while his catalogue features on labels such as Material, Gritty, and Sick Mode, picking up heavy rotation from the likes of Loco Dice, Marco Carola, and The Martinez Brothers. Now on Sound D’Elite, Gobaxx offers his ‘Survive’ EP, a two-track package that moves seamlessly from sun-soaked sessions to the after-hours, catering both day and night with equal intent.
The title track, ‘Survive’, delivers a warped bassline, vibrant chords, and hooky vocals that lock into a heads-down roller built for peak-time moments. On the flip, teaming up with Spaniard Kolditto, ‘Worky’ is stripped-back at its core and lays down a thudding groove and menacing low-end, with tripped-out vocals guiding the cut into dark, ominous territory.
Q: Please introduce yourself
Hi! I’m Gobaxx, Tech House and Minimal Deep Tech DJ and Producer from Bilbao, Spain. Resident DJ at Sala Sonora. I released music on Sound D’Elite, Material, Gritty…
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?
With Valentino Rossi. He's been my idol since I was a kid. It would be a dream to spend some time with him.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I'm a curious guy who likes to know things, even though I'm sure I'd regret it sometimes.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
I would have loved to do the soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean. It has a great repertoire with different styles.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
Loco Dice, he's been the artist who has influenced me the most since I started listening to electronic music. He's managed to evolve with the music over the years while maintaining his own personal style.
Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?
I started with music when I was 15. Passion, desire, and perseverance are what keep you going and help you get where you want to be. Ambition, but also patience. Working on your own music is very important.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?
Don't get discouraged by the obstacles you'll encounter. "No"s are just part of the process. Keep working on yourself, learning, and developing your skills. The hours you dedicate to studying are what will make the difference. Perseverance.
Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?
Closing set for Marco Carola at Sala Sonora. It was a very special night for me. Full house. Incredible vibes on the dance floor from beginning to end. One of those nights you cherish forever.
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
I started with hard house when I was a kid; it was what I liked, and I learned to produce that genre. Over the years, I lowered the BPM as my interest in tech house and house grew. I've also been developing my sound with Minimal Deep Tech, combining styles depending on the time and place.
Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?
If I had to choose another genre, I'd make hip hop beats. It's a style of music I like and listen to every day.
Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
1- Octave One - Black Water. It's one of those tracks that sparked my passion for electronic music. The melody is captivating.
2- Snap! - Rhythm Is a Dancer. A track from the 90s that gives me a great feeling with a powerful vocal
3- David Guetta ft Akon- Sexy Bitch. A song that marked a generation with a catchy rhythm that remains a hit to this day.
Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?
Where I live is a rural area; there's a meadow overlooking the mouth of the estuary where it meets the sea. At sunset, it can be an incredible sight.
Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?
I have a release coming soon on Criterio Music and several collaborations in the works. My first tour in America and lots of new music on the way. Will be a great year.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?
I love Harry Potter; I watch the movies over and over again as if it were the first time. The best part is that it feels like I've never seen them before.
