Q: Please introduce yourself
I’m Igor Vicente, a Belgian DJ, producer, and label owner. My journey into music began when a was a kid, I followed my uncle behind the decks at weddings, family parties, and local bars. What started as a childhood passion soon grew into a lifelong path. By the early 2000s I was fully immersed in the electronic music scene. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of performing at some of the world’s most iconic clubs, from DC10 in Ibiza to Fabric in London, and releasing music on leading labels such as Hot Creations, Mobilee, Get Physical, Visionquest, 8bit Records, and many more.
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?
I would dream of having a coffee with my late grandfather, just to let him know that he never had stinky feet. I only ever said that because I couldn’t take his armlock anymore! He was also a famous Judo sensei…
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I already have superpower as I’m surrounded by super people.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
The Big Blue. The soundtrack is simply magnificent and full of emotion. It immediately captivated me the first time I saw the film, at its release, in a small cinema in the center of Mons. That was also the day I realized, for the very first time, the importance of music in a film.
Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?
A lot of people and DJs influenced me, because I get bored quite quickly and I always needed change. I was constantly searching, listening to many different artists to discover something new or different. It became a bit like a ‘drug’ for me. So if I had to sum it up, I’d say my biggest influence has always been my curiosity and my thirst for discovery. Beside that, Laurent, Sven, Richie, Luciano, Ricardo and all the ones who never sold their soul.
Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?
It all began with the COLORZ parties in Mons, which later led me to launch Mosa Club, where I booked artists such as Guy Gerber and Jack de Marseille and learned how to run a club.
After that, I created my own nights at infamous Decadance, called Wildfamily, where I brought Jamie Jones to Belgium for the very first time back in 2007, followed by Seth Troxler and many others. Then came Ultrasone with Vernon Bara, our releases on Hot Creations, Visionquest, and Supplement Facts (Guy Gerber’s first label) opened international doors and truly shaped my career.
Since 2013, I’ve been pursuing my solo path, becoming a resident at Café d’Anvers and launching my own nights, State of Flow at Fuse, where I also introduced Nastia and Amelie Lens before their shift to harder music. I even inspired the new ergonomy of the second room (DJ booth on the dance floor, haha).
In 2018, I spent six months in New York City, an incredible experience that allowed me to dive deep into the scene and visit their clubs & venues, a bit like the Indiana Jones of the underground (more haha).
More recently, I’ve focused on supporting and developing the scene in my hometown, Mons. It’s been a long journey, always fueled by the same passion and energy, something I can’t wait to keep sharing and bring back home.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?
Don’t chase trends. Find your own sound, your own story, and stay consistent. Longevity comes from authenticity and most important, believe in your dreams!
Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?
Extrema Outdoor 2014, playing before Recondite, it was the third day without sleep, almost missed the flight to comeback from a booking in Switzerland and when I arrived there all my friends were there first row of a 3000 people crowd. It was the last set of the weekend and we smashed it together.
I’ll cherish that memory forever!
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
It never stops to evolve, I like it when it takes you on a trip, I need to feel that I enter in a deep connection between what I’m playing and the crowd, and when it happens, no drugs can’t compare, it’s an eargasm.
Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?
I’ve always been drawn to reggae, especially dub. Those deep basslines and echoing delays really transport me and let me get completely lost in the rhythm. I also have a soft spot for Latin rock, particularly instrumental tracks, where every instrument tells its own story.
Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
I’d say I was hooked on electronic music way before I ever touched a pair of decks. As a kid I was already listening to Jean-Michel Jarre, plus all the radio and TV shows I could catch.
Then came the late ’80s, the New Beat was exploding in Belgium, and since I was born in 1980, I basically had no choice but to fall into it. The very first record I got from my uncle was ‘This Is the Sound of C’… and well, the rest is history or maybe destiny :)
Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?
The old mining sites in the Borinage area near Mons. They carry so much history, and turning them into a space for music and unity would be powerful, raw, industrial, and symbolic. We actually started a new event series called Bergen Calling (Bergen means Mons in Dutch)
Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?
Alongside some exciting collaborations in the works, I have a collaboration with Dimitri Andreas and Red Pig Flower coming out on Dana Ruh’s label Broquade in October. Then in November comes ‘Ecstatic’, a strong EP with DkA on Move Recordings, a Belgian vinyl and digital label originally founded by Jerome aka End-Jy, which I’ve teamed up with for its relaunch. The EP also includes a proper Gregor Tresher remix.
2026 will see an other Ep with Vernon Bara under our old moniker Ultrasone featuring the voice of Michele Uziel.
On the events side, I’m launching two new parties! The first is Fresh & Cream, together with my longtime mate Rodham, at the underground venue Abstract in La Louvière. The second is Bergen Calling, a brand-new event series in Mons, my city from the heart. With this project, I’ll bring all the experience from the clubs I’ve played and visited around the world back home. It will take place at the stunning, rehabilitated mining site Sparkoh (Ex Pass), located on the former Crachet-Picquery coal mine. For the first edition, we’re thrilled to announce… well, you’ll see soon!
Stay tuned for more info! Touring is also on the horizon, with dates across Europe and the US.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?
I’m not Italian (even I love Italy) but my favorite food is pastas, al dente.
