14 FAKTS INTERVIEW WITHJHOLEYSON

Returning to Hot Creations, having first appeared on the label in 2019 with ‘Discow’, Colombian DJ/producer Jholeyson links up with fellow countryman Luis Martinez in what will be Martinez’ label debut. Established talents in their own right, the duo have enjoyed solo success from Martinez’s Marco Carola backed ‘YAY BOY’ to Jholeyson’s recent anthem ‘PK Dora’, with releases on prestigious labels including Solid Grooves, Deeperfect, Hellbent and Hottrax. Fusing Martinez’s vibrant sound, which draws from his love of 90s house, with Jholeyson’s eclectic tones and deep affection for the Latin genres that surrounded him during his formative years, they unite on Jamie Jones’ revered imprint with the zesty sounds of ‘Chewtastic’.

Q: Please introduce yourself

I consider myself 'Joy.' I have been passionate about music for as long as I can remember, having been born surrounded by various musical genres. It was only a matter of time before I felt music running through my veins 

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

Michael Bibi, trying to understand how he thinks, is a reference and example of overcoming what happened with his illness. But beyond that, he is making his name and brand a style that brings together crowds. Fascinating! 

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

The power to read minds. I would like to know what people are thinking in different situations. 

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?

Ninja Turtles, because that movie marked my childhood. 

Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?

Jamie Jones has been my musical influence since the beginning due to his wide-ranging musical spectrum, both in his shows and his music production, with which I strongly identify. 

Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?

I have never had a large studio or the best equipment, but I have always been clear about where I want to go. My perseverance, resilience, and love for music have allowed me to make progress toward those goals with very little. 

Q: Everyone goes through ups and downs, what’s one habit you adopt to push through the downs?

See the positive side of things whether it is something good or something not so good. But above all, I give everything to God; I pray a lot, and I am nothing without him. 

Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?

Club Room in Santiago de Chile, I always wanted to play in that club, and it was a dream night playing my own productions and people receiving them with great energy. 

Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?

It's evolved in a way I never expected, I really like a lot of genres: House, Tech House, Minimal/Deep Tech, Afro House.  Now, I feel comfortable playing with these genres in shows, and when it comes to producing, I feel qualified to produce music of the highest quality in all these genres. 

Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?

Salsa music is one of the genres that inspire me to create music and that I listen to all the time. I am from an area of Colombia where salsa music is all around us from birth. 

Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?

1) Mauro Picotto – KomodoGuru,

2) Josh Project – InfinitySuper,

3) Flu – Shine.

These are three of the tracks that, between 2008 and 2011, made me hallucinate when I discovered electronic music and encouraged me to learn more about the industry and delve into this world, starting to attend clandestine parties in my town in Colombia and discovering the figure of the DJ. 

Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?

The city of Medellín, the One Carnival club is the largest club in the city, and the vibe feels of the highest level, special moments with the great sound they have there. 

Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?

I will have a special release in collaboration with my good friend George Privatti on Issues Label. As for plans this year, we are working on closing three more releases with labels I’ve always admired, and I’m also set to debut in some countries and places I’ve always wanted to visit. 

Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?

I read all the comments from people reacting to my shows and new releases, and I get excited by some of them to the point of taking a screenshot. I then show them to my mom, and she gets just as excited and happy.
