DJ and producer Juliann makes his debut on Notre Dame’s Paranormal with his first solo EP ‘All I Do’. The title track opens with the vocal refrain “And all I wanna do is love you baby,” instantly setting the tone with a nostalgic nod to classic 2000s vocal house. Bright piano chords push the record forward, delivering uplifting, feel-good energy before the second track, ‘Up’, Juliann leans into a subtler beginning, building from a looping piano motif that gradually deepens and expands. As it evolves, organic percussion layers in, creating a euphoric and energetic progression designed for the peak-time.
Juliann is a familiar name on the Parisian house circuit, sharing lineups with leading electronic artists such as Adriatique, Dixon, and Argy. As a producer, Juliann has released music on respected electronic labels, including Hot Since ‘82’s Knee Deep In Sound, Sapiens, Mindgame, and Indie House. He also co-founded the label Temps Libre with fellow Parisian Assayag in 2023. A consistent force in the dance scene, Juliann continues to build momentum both in the studio and behind the decks.
Q: Please introduce yourself
I’m Juliann, a DJ and producer from Paris. I’ve been making music for a while now, and I feel really lucky to be able to do what I love the most.
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?
I’d love to have coffee with Pedro Winter. For me, he represents the foundation of the French Touch scene. I’m sure he has so many stories from that era—and of course, such a forward-thinking vision.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I’d love to be able to fly. Being able to move freely from one place to another without limits would be incredible. It gives a feeling of freedom and energy, similar to what you feel on a great dancefloor.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
Something like Interstellar. The atmosphere and sound textures are perfect for strong, impactful electronic sounds.
Q: Who influenced you the most in your music career and why?
Agoria played an important role in my journey. My mother also had a huge influence, as she introduced me to disco music at a very young age. Both of these influences gave me a love for rhythm, groove, and making people dance—which remains at the core of my music today.
Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?
I started music very young thanks to my uncle, who was a DJ. He gave me my first software, and that’s where it all began. Since then, I’ve spent countless hours experimenting and producing, always focused on making people move and creating energy on the dancefloor.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?
Be patient and stay authentic. Focus on your sound and what works for you, not on what’s trending.
Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?
I say it every time, but my most unforgettable set has to be the night I did a B2B with Maceo Plex at Gate in Paris. Playing alongside an artist I respect so much was already incredible, but the B2B format made the moment even more unique. The energy in the room was insane, and everything just flowed perfectly—a memory I’ll never forget.
Another standout moment was when I played on the Seine riverbanks in front of Hôtel de Ville with Assayag during Fête de la Musique 2024. The vibe was completely different—open air, a diverse crowd, and that unmistakable Paris energy. It felt spontaneous, alive, and deeply connected to the city. Moments like that remind me why I do what I do.
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
At first, I experimented a lot with different sounds. Today, I focus on groove and efficiency. Every track needs to work on the dancefloor and make a real impact on the crowd.
Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?
I’d choose hip-hop. I love the groove, rhythm, and energy in this genre. Even if it’s not electronic, it’s inspiring for creating effective beats and making people move.
Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
1- “Teachers” by Daft Punk — a real revelation with its groove and timeless energy.
2- “Pocket Piano” by DJ Mehdi — playful, inventive, and full of groove.
3- “Black Water” by Octave One — simple but ultra-effective, a perfect example of a groove that sticks in your head.
Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?
Let’s take it higher and head to Montmartre. The view, the atmosphere, and the energy of the place would make for something truly special.
Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?
I have an exciting year ahead with new music coming out on Paranormal Records, including my next release that really showcases my energy. Another release is on Azzur Records, and I also have several collaborations in the works that I’m really looking forward to sharing. I’ve got some special shows coming up too—this year is all about keeping my sound fresh, powerful, and made for the dancefloor.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?
Before getting into music, I actually wanted to become a professional tennis player. I spent a lot of time playing and was really into it growing up. I guess I just swapped the court for the dancefloor—but the same energy is still there.
