14 FAKTS INTERVIEW WITH
LOUIE VEGA &
DAVID MORALES

16/09/2025

On August 23rd, Louie Vega and David Morales brought their Kings of House NYC project to Pacha Ibiza, taking over the legendary Flower Power party. As Ibiza’s longest-running event, Flower Power will wrap up its season on October 4th with a special closing hosted by Bora Uzer and Purple Disco Machine.

Vega and Morales are true pillars of New York’s formative club scene. From Vega’s era-defining Masters at Work productions and Sound Factory Bar residency to Morales’ Grammy-winning remixes and unforgettable sets at The Loft and Paradise Garage, their careers have shaped dance music history. After decades of running parallel paths, Kings of House NYC sees them finally unite behind the decks — going back-to-back in a session that celebrates both the roots and the future of house music.

Q: Please introduce yourself

Louie: My name is Louie Vega - I am a producer, DJ, bandleader, label owner, husband and father.

David: My name is David Morales and I’m a DJ, songwriter and producer.

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

Louie: Stevie Wonder, because he’s my favorite artist of all time.

David: The Dalai Lama - I would love to have a spiritual conversation with him. I once met him on a flight and was taken in by his presence.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Louie: The ability to wish for anything and it comes true, so that I can wish for world peace, ending hunger and bringing much-needed joy to the world.

David: To have superhuman strength so that I can move mountains! (laughs).

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?

Louie: I would choose Interstellar, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind and Prometheus. I’m intrigued by outer space and it would be wonderful to hear what comes out of my head musically, when inspired by these movies.

David: I would choose Shaft. I like the old black exploitation soundtracks.

Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?

Louie: Quincy Jones, Willie Colón and Larry Levan.

David: Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys and Aretha Franklin.

Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?

Louie: It’s been an almost four decade journey, and what got me here is my passion and love for music. Whether I’m in a DJ booth, creating in a studio, or on a stage with my band, I’m always giving 200%... Seeing people all over the world get emotional has been a true reward and that keeps the cycle going. So I would say my passion, love, devotion and dedication to what I do, has gotten me where I am today.

David: My passion for music has given me the opportunity to live the life I do, while my curiosity has always drawn me to the evolution of technology.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?

Louie: That you have to really love it to do it properly!

David: If you don’t have the passion, then quit while you’re ahead.

Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?

David: Yes, a performance I gave in Tokyo, Japan at Club Yellow in the 90s. I played an emotional 12-hour set and the audience was in tears.

Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?

Louie: Travelling the world and playing back home in New York City has been the best training ground in learning how to connect with so many different crowds. I’ve been a part of many genres of dance music and have learned how to play them all in one set if I want. This came from growing up in New York City and learning from the greats back at home - Larry Levan, Tony Humphries, David Mancuso and Nicky Siano - all of whom have impeccable taste and could swerve through different styles of music in a set.

This then helped me to create my own style. Being open to new music and always open to learning about our music in the past and present, has helped me evolve along with today’s technology.

David: My sound has evolved with technology, while experience makes you better, of course.

Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?

David: I love Reggae for its sound, its vibe and its effortlessly chill spirit.

Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?

Louie: Not tracks per se, but artists that include Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Gino Soccio, Cerrone, Thomas Dolby, Harold Faltemeyer, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Brian Jackson and Gil Scot Heron (all of whom used the Tonto synthesiser), Boyd Jarvis & Timmy Regisford, Alexander Robotnik and Theo Vaness.

David: I’ve been DJing before electronic music was established.

Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?

Louie: Brooklyn!

Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?

Louie: Masters At Work (Kenny Dope and I) have produced an album for Brian Jackson, the musical partner of Gil Scott Heron, set to release in January 2026. The new Elements Of Life (my live band) album follows in March 2026.

I’m also working with Anané on an EP for The Ritual With Anané & Louie Vega, slated for April 2026. Alongside this, there’s lots of DJ and live band touring.

A new single titled ‘Merch Of Time’ with Msaki is on the way, plus a 5-pack unreleased VI coming in October for ADE — a five-piece vinyl set with previously unreleased material. There’s also a special 7” vinyl featuring two new Elements Of Life singles.

Upcoming collaborations include projects with Joseph Capriati, The Martinez Brothers, and Blackchild. And, of course, we’re deep in the works on the Nuyorican Soul 2 album, produced by Masters At Work with some super talented features!

David: I am presently working on two album projects slated for later this year.

Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?

Louie: A fun fact about myself is that I am a roller skater - a disco dance roller skater. Xanadu in Brooklyn is my favorite roller rink!

David: I am not a late night person.
