14 FAKTS INTERVIEW WITHMAMÖRO

20/11/2025

Afrosteria is excited to present the Thandaza EP, a vibrant and well-balanced three-track release from Portuguese artist MAMöro, showcasing his versatile approach to Afro house. From feel-good moments to deeper, hypnotic grooves, this EP is a journey through rhythm, melody, and emotion.

The EP opens with Thandaza, a standout collaboration with South African vocalist S.A.N.E. Her glamorous, uplifting voice brings warmth and soul to a track built on a driving bassline and carefully crafted percussion. With an infectious groove and a big, emotional drop, its a track made to put a smile on your face and joy on the dancefloor.

Next is Exodus, diving into deeper territory with hypnotizing vocal samples, rolling synths, and an arpeggiated progression that builds tension and energy. A perfectly timed break and release give it that arms-in-the-air effect, creating a powerful dancefloor moment with emotional depth.

Closing the EP is Pambeko, where MAMöro explores trance-tinged Afro house, combining hypnotic vocals, massive percussive hits, and floating synths that blur the lines between genres. The break is pure movement — impossible to stand still. With the Thandaza EP, MAMöro delivers a project that feels both cohesive and varied, striking a perfect balance between groove, emotion, and innovation.

Q: Please introduce yourself

Hello, I'm MAMöro, born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, and now based in Madrid, Spain. I'm a dynamic DJ and music producer blending the soulful energy of Afro House with the pulse of Techno electronic sounds.

My journey is set through rhythm and culture, connecting continents, communities, and emotions on the dance floor.

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

I have to say Black Coffee because he represents everything I admire about being a successful electronic music artist. Authenticity, vision, and soul, the main and principal ingredients for success. He turned deep house into a spiritual language and showed that African rhythm belongs on the world stage and the biggest proof of that statement is the very grammy he won.

I’d love to sit down with him, not just to talk about music, but about energy, purpose, and how he stays grounded while moving millions through sound.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Telepathy, because I could immediately see people for what they are. Imagine the deceiving heart breaking and so on that you could prevent with that kind of power.

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?

That's a hard one but I would say The Gladiator with Russel Crowe. To me that movie has the best OST of all times, imagine being part of something of that magnitude.

Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?

One of my biggest inspirations has always been Black Coffee. His ability to tell a story through a deep, soulful house completely changed the way I understood music. Listening to his sets taught me that a DJ isn’t just someone who plays tracks, a DJ is a storyteller, a translator of emotion.

Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?

Music has always been the rhythm of my life. I was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, surrounded by a mix of African, Latin, and European sounds that shaped my love for rhythm and culture. From the lively streets and soulful beats of Lisbon, I discovered that music could be both a celebration and a language, a way to connect with people beyond words.

My journey truly began when I fell in love with DJing and music production, learning how to turn feelings into sound. Over time, I developed a deep connection to Afro-house, Afrobeat, and global electronic music, genres that reflect my roots and my curiosity for the world. Artists like Black Coffee showed me the power of storytelling through music, teaching me that every set can be a spiritual experience.

Today, based in Madrid, Spain, I’m continuing that journey, crafting my own sound and sharing it with audiences across borders. For me, every beat carries a piece of my story: the warmth of Lisbon, the energy of Madrid, and the universal pulse of Africa that lives within the music I play. This is more than a career, it’s a path of connection, growth, and rhythm.

I am DJ Mamöro, and my mission is to make people feel, not just dance.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?

I would tell them to master the skills of promoting, marketing and advertising before anything else. For those who live this life, they know what I am talking about. It’s not about music anymore, it’s about business, sad to say!!

The biggest mistake would be trying to replicate something that already exists. Guess what, If somebody is doing it already, you are late!! Try to present something new and unique, something that will identify you as an artist instead of associating you with something or somebody.

Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?

Cova Santa, Ibiza. I remember before I started I was looking at the dance floor and thinking.. man this one is going to be a hard one. The dance floor was getting empty by the minute and I was afraid it would be empty by the time I hit the booth. Then I started playing around 1:30am and less then 1h after that the dancefloor was absolutely packed with people dancing, enjoying the journey, they were really getting nuts and best part is, you could barely see phones in the air. I was supposed to play for 1 hour 30 minutes, and at the end they made me play all night till closing. That's a feeling hard to forget!!

Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?

At the beginning I was playing what we can call a more traditional Afro House style but as the industry started to shift, so did I. Nowadays my production tends to be more mainstream although I still produce some more underground stuff.

Regarding Djing nowadays I lean more to Afro Tech and Melodic Techno, something that you can also find in my most recent productions.

Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?

I have a very eclectic taste in music but maybe Blues as I also play the electric guitar and I love to play blues for the single fact that it's a storytelling music genre.

Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?

1. Luzon - The Baguio Track (Chus & Ceballos Iberian Remix) - First time I listened to this track I felt absolutely hypnotized.

2. House of Gypsies - Sume Sigh Say - This is probably when I realized that these "4/4 things" were definitely going to be my thing.

3. Ilario Alicante - Vacaciones en Chile - For many years  this was one of my best House tracks.

Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?

LX Factory, in the heart of Lisbon, is one of the city’s most iconic creative spaces, a place where art, culture, and urban energy collide. Built inside a former industrial complex beneath the 25 de Abril Bridge, its raw architecture and vibrant atmosphere make it a natural stage for a rave or electronic music event.

The mix of industrial warehouses, open-air courtyards, and art-covered walls creates an environment that already feels electric, a place where sound and space merge into pure experience. With its combination of history and modern edge, LX Factory offers the perfect balance between underground authenticity and urban accessibility.

Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?

Beginning of December I'm releasing a collaboration with Space Motion. It's a remix from a very old and emblematic house track. Stay tuned and find which track it is!! The plan it's always the same: produce more music, spread it and find gigs to play and tell stories around the world.

Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?

Humm.. It's always hard for me to talk about myself but I can share one fun fact about me. I have a ritual before every set: closing my eyes for 10 seconds to feel the crowd’s energy before playing the first beat.
