Brazilian DJ/producer Marian lands on Crosstown Rebels sub-label Rebellion for the first time with his ‘Night Life’ EP, showcasing the Florianópolis artist’s take on house music. Linking with in-demand Amsterdam-based vocalist Sirolf on the title track, while also delivering two solo productions to close out the package, the release captures his balance of infectious rhythm and late-night energy.
With momentum already established via releases on Hot Creations, MVSON, Organic Pieces, and Dogghäuz Records, Marian’s tracks can be found earning heavy support from names such as Jamie Jones, The Martinez Brothers, and Franky Rizardo. Drawing on influences from Chicago house, hip-hop, and beyond, his ‘Night Life’ EP marks an assured first outing on the label, channelling a sound that feels loose, tactile, and built with movement in mind.
Q: Please introduce yourself
I’m Marian, a DJ producer from Brazil, currently living in Florianópolis. I've released music on Hot Creations, Hottrax, Mood Child, Deeperfect and Elrow Music.
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with and why?
Quincy Jones.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Never get sick, so I can enjoy life without worrying too much.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
Lord Of The Rings, my 10-year-old version would thank me.
Q: Who influenced you the most in your music career and why?
Classmatic, he helped me so much when I was starting.
Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?
It's just me trying to live out of music without having a boss, and I got here, playing in different countries.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?
Listen to old music and the old producers' interviews, thank me in the next 2 years.
Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?
Me b2b Simas at Dedge Festival, it was a very groovy set, 6 am, sun coming up, rave heads. You can check it out on YouTube.
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
The more I play in the clubs, the more I evolve my sound. You start to listen to the music and pay attention to the groove with a different vision, which keeps the people moving and grooving.
Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?
Probably Indie rock, because it was my teenage dream to have a band.
Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
1- Daft Punk - Get Lucky. It's more like disco, and dance.
2- Flume - Holdin On (Kaytranada Edit). The soulful vocals, smooth keys, groovy drums, just magic.
3- 16 Bit Lolitas - Deep In My Soul. Really deep and emotional track, but still has groovy drums.
These are the tracks that influenced me the most in my electronic musical journey, not the first ones that I listened to, but the ones that still resonate with my sound and soul till the present day.
Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?
Santo Antônio de Lisboa in Florianopolis, the sunset is magical, the sky just turns pink in the sunset.
Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?
Well, there's nothing planned yet, but definitely something in my own label, Temazzo. For the gigs, I am going to tour all summer in Europe; you can catch me in Ibiza, Saint Tropez, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and many more.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?
The first time I took a flight in my life was to play at a party.
