14 FAKTS INTERVIEW WITHMISHA

Q: Please introduce yourself

Hi, thank you so much for having me. My name is Misha, I'm a DJ and producer originally from Nis, Serbia, but based out of Washington D.C.

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

Hmm good question, there are definitely a lot of people on that list, but let's say Charles Bukowski.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Teleportation was the first superpower to come to mind. It would be so cool to be able to do it - one moment you are in Brazil then the next you're in Europe, not to mention how helpful it would be with touring, haha.

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?

The Godfather, it's one of my favorite movies and that film would be fun because the music is so powerful. I draw a lot of musical inspiration from both classical and contemporary and would enjoy being able to do different styles of music like that.

Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And who has been the most influential in your personal life?

In my music career, The Prodigy and Carl Cox, and in my personal life, oh that's a really hard one... I would say it's a combination of many people, as I've never really had an idol, more of an idea of who I wanted to be, influenced by family and close friends.

Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?

My journey has been fun and interesting. Music has always been my biggest passion, since having a band when I was 10 years old and recording in my room...just two chubby boys playing jungle beats and singing/rapping over them and recording on a tape. We made three albums, lol. Wish I could find those somewhere. Don't be surprised if these end up on the next EP. Was always throwing house parties as a teenager as we had a really good sound system, were making playlists and in charge of the music selection, so I guess the love was born there towards DJing and catering to crowds (big and small) in a musical sense.

Finally started to DJ about 5 years ago and super grateful for my journey, all the ups and downs. I think what got me to where I am is my love and passion for the music, hard work and focus, probably more of an obsession to be honest, help and guidance from friends, and last but not least, amazing support from all the people I've been getting throughout the years, it means so much to me.

Q: Everyone goes through ups and downs, what’s one habit you adopt to push through the downs?

A lot of ups and downs in this industry for sure, and mine has always been to push through with sports, healthy habits, and talking to friends. Just staying on track and focusing on getting better, 1 percent a day is all we need. You will not always be motivated, so you have to be dedicated...

Q: What is one pro work ethic that you would recommend to the readers/listeners?

Stay humble and hungry, keep learning and be open minded, rules are there to be broken. Take inspiration, but also create your own identity.

Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?

It's always been House and Techno for me, definitely been getting more minimal with my taste and sound over time. Love everything that has soul.

Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?

R’n’b and soul, it hits the right spots.

Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?

A) Wamdue Project -  King of My Castle

B) The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up

C) Scooter - Ramp

Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?

Nis Fortress would be very cool! It's in the center of the city and is an important historical landmark.

Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?

My upcoming release, Ritmo De Verao, is my biggest one so far and I am super pumped for it. It's part of a 3 track EP coming out on Hottrax, a legendary imprint by one of my biggest influences - Jamie Jones! Will be out on April 12! I have a lot of plans for this year and some great scheduled releases which I can't talk about just yet, but will be able to share soon. Stay tuned :)

Started a High Class Nasty label with my brother Late London last year - an extension of the music collective he and I founded - and excited to grow the brand and curate the sound and upcoming releases. Send your promos!

Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?

Used to act a little bit, did a few movies and theatre and was a fighter, I've been training in martial arts for 19 years.

Bonus Q Powered by Pioneer DJ: How did Pioneer DJ influence your career and what is your favorite Pioneer DJ gear?

Was always a Pioneer fan, started out with a small DDJ 400 and then upgraded to sz then xdj-xz. My favorite gear is probably RMX 1000, it's a fun and powerful tool that I love using when playing
