14 FAKTS INTERVIEW WITHOlivier Giacomotto

Interviewed by GBS , October 12.2022

Q: How would you describe yourself in one word?

Musician

Q: What was the driving force that got you into Music Production and when?

Definitely « creation » , I’m a creative entity... When I was kid I preferred to stay on my own and create stories inmy bedroom... I’m 46 now and nothing has changed, I like to be in my studio on my own and create music... ideasare boiling inside me everyday and have to come alive.

Q: Analog or Digital? And why?

Digital for sure. I learnt music production in huge studios full of gears, but I like minimalism. My studio is made of 1computer, 1 sound card, and a good pair of monitors and the sound quality of my plugins and synths are as goodas any hardware.

Q: What's your favorite venue and why does it stand out from the rest?

Stereo night Club (Montreal, Canada) is simply the best sounding room ever as it’s built exactly like a recordingstudio.

Q: If you were to have a superpower, what would it be and why?

Good DJs know how to read a crowd and play the right song at the right time... so if I had to pick one superpowerI’d love to read into people’s mind.
Q: 1 person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

I’m a studio geek so I can talk about mixing and mastering techniques all day... I have a few mixing engineers in mind, also a few producers and song writers on my list... but let’s dream big and have a coffee with Max Martin.

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score from the past, what movie would you choose and why?

The one I have in mind is not a movie but a TV show called Hannibal with Mads Mikkelsen. The quality of thesound is as good as the show itself because it’s weird, immersive, and intense. I did a score back in 2015 for amovie called The Red Man, it was such an amazing experience... that is definitely something that I would do again.

Q: Recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would fit a perfect rave?

There is no perfect rave, as I said before there is only the right song at the right moment.

Q: What are 3 tracks that got you into electronic music?

Plastikman - Spastik

Daft Punk - Rollin’ and Scratchin’

Mr Oizo - Flat Beat

Q: Tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for this year.

Two tracks of mine called « Daylight’s Delight » and «Time », this is my new EP on Yoshitoshi Recordings. Check itout on Beatport!!!

Q: Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners don't know.

Not sure it’s fun, for me it wasn’t, but some of you may laugh... It happened once in my life... long story short : Ihad to pee on stage below the mixing desk when playing in front of a large crowd... I had no choice... there was notime and no bathroom nearby. Shame on me!!!

Q: Last but not least, do you have any questions for the viewer/reader?

What do you like to hear from me in the future?
