Q: Please introduce yourself
My name is Paco, better known as Pako Ramirez. I was born in Córdoba, although I’m now based in Málaga. I’ve been DJing since 1994 and producing music since 2018. Without a doubt, music is my biggest passion, and I love finding different ways to share it with people and help them enjoy it.
Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?
I’d love to sit down for a coffee with Carl Cox and hear his story from the very beginning. He’s been a huge influence for me in this industry, and I’d love to hear about his journey firsthand.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I’ve been asking myself this question since I was a kid, and I could never decide between controlling time, becoming invisible or teleporting. In the end, I’d definitely choose to control time: to freeze the good moments, fast-forward through the bad ones, and relive some of the happiest periods of my life.
Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?
Interstellar or Gladiator, although honestly, I’d be happy with any film scored by Hans Zimmer. His music gives me goosebumps. I feel it with every sense of my body.
Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?
There wasn’t just one person who influenced my career. It was a combination of different people at different stages. There are a few artists I really connected with along the way. Early on, David Penn was definitely a major influence, and I learned a lot from him about music production. Later, artists like Iglesias, Angel Heredia, Siwell, Mendo, Joe Vanditti and Rsquared played a big part in helping me refine my sound.
Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?
My journey as a DJ has been a long one, with plenty of changes along the way. But if we focus specifically on my production career, which began in 2018, I’d say what has brought me to where I am today is my love for music, my discipline and my commitment to constantly improving and learning everything on my own. Above all, it’s taken an incredible amount of consistency and perseverance. Without those things, none of this would have been possible.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?
Honestly, I think that in today’s music industry, my advice might actually be to find another line of work! Haha. But if you’re like me, with music running through your veins and unable to imagine life without it, then my advice would be the same as I mentioned before: stay consistent, persevere, and never stop learning. There’s always something new to discover.
Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?
I don’t think there’s been one particular gig that stands out as unforgettable. Almost every set has given me memorable moments in one way or another. But if I had to highlight a few, they’d be the ones I played at Tantra Ibiza. There’s something truly magical about that place. It allows you to bring out the best in yourself and enjoy the experience in a way that’s hard to find elsewhere. The connection with the crowd and the energy you create together there are on another level.
Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?
When I first started DJing in 1994, I was playing Techno, House, Eurodance and other styles. Then, around 1996, Breakbeat arrived in my area of Andalusia, and I spent about six years playing that sound.
After that, things changed again, and I returned to different House subgenres, such as Progressive House and, eventually, today’s Tech House.
When I started producing, I began blending sounds and influences that had shaped me over the years. My sound developed around Tech House, Minimal Deep Tech and House, always with little touches of old-school influences. And that’s pretty much where I am today.
Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?
Probably Deep House, Funky House or Soulful House. I think they’re incredibly elegant styles, very pleasing to the ear and musically rich in terms of their arrangements and composition.
Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?
1- Technotronic - Pump Up the Jam.
2- Snap! - The Power.
3- C+C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now).
These were some of the tracks that first sparked my curiosity about electronic music.
Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?
Perhaps the pine groves in Torremolinos (Málaga)—a forest filled with trees—would provide a magical setting for a rave.
Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?
My upcoming releases are landing on labels such as Botaniq, the label from the great Dennis Cruz, as well as Mood Child, Nature, Moan, Avotre and several others. Some of these releases include remixes by Ssero and Kirkie.
I’m also working on new collaborations with Tony Romera, Artslaves, Santé and Lioneel. Before the end of the year, I’m scheduled to play in Helsinki, Oviedo, Sri Lanka, Madrid and Portugal. And there are plenty of other projects in the works, too.
Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?
Hahaha, this is definitely the hardest question! Hmm… I was going to say that I love dogs, but I think anyone who follows me closely already knows that! Haha. I guess one fun fact about me is that, despite being a DJ and everything that comes with that lifestyle, I’m actually a really shy person and get embarrassed very easily. Haha!
