14 FAKTS INTERVIEW WITHSANOI

06/11/2023

Q: Please introduce yourself

Hi I’m Sanoi and I am an electronic music producer and DJ.

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

Nicolas Cage, he is absolutely insane and fascinating. I think this would be very entertaining and inspiring.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Teleportation. It was flight for a long time, but then I thought about all the downsides of flying like wind and the cold and it actually would take a long time to fly anywhere. So teleportation would be the best. Visit any place anytime in an instant, plus no more Ubers!

Q: If given the opportunity to create a film score, which movie would you choose and why?

Dario Argento's Suspiria. I love what Goblin did with the score, but an experimental synth score could be fun a la Jóhann Jóhannsson’s work on movies like Mandy or Arrival.

Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And who has been the most influential in your personal life?

My mum for sure. She is a singer, and I grew up under that grand piano listening to her practice. My friend Carsten also showed mea big variety of amazing music in my teenage years and really opened my ears to listen to everything in between the notes.

Q: Could you share with us your journey – the good and bad experiences that have brought you to where you are today?

I started doodling around with electronic music when I was about14 or 15 years old, and just kept on trying different genres and styles to grow my box of tools. I think it only properly clicked for me in the last 3 years. Anything before that is absolute rubbish!

Q: Everyone goes through ups and downs, what’s one habit you adopt to push through the downs?

If I hit a wall when writing for example, I take a step back and maybe just start recording percussions or start twiddling with a synth. There are multiple pots of creative energy, and if the computer one is empty there is always synths or other stuff left that you can tap into.

Q: What is one pro work ethic that you would recommend to the readers/listeners?

Finish your projects and apply what you think you could have done better to the next one. Trying to get perfection on the first try does not work, and you don’t give yourself the space to learn.

Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?

I started with house music, then around 2010 I got into dubstep, and after a while got back into house music. I think over the last 3 years I went from making records for specific labels and markets to just writing whatever I feel I have to write. That has given me the freedom to create authentic music that resonates with people on a deeper level.

Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?

I really like modern progressive metal a la Animals as Leaders. The musician ship and rhythmic things that are happening there really tickle my brain. Some people might think it’s just shredding but I like it.

Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?

a. Stimming – The Kiss

b. Benny Benassi – Satisfaction

c. Einmusik - Pearls
Florence and the machine – You’ve got the Love – Mark Knight Remix –one of the tracks of my early visits to Ibiza.

Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?

I don’t think there are many places left in Germany that have not been raved in yet!

Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?

On the 3 rd of November I am going to release my second albumEchoes Of Home, so that’s pretty exciting. After that, I will be busy over the summer playing shows all over New Zealand andAustralia, playing some big festivals with people like Basement Jaxx, Chemical Brothers, LF System & heaps more, it’s going to be a very busy few months of shows.

Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?

I have a complete collection of 120 cassette tapes of a German audio drama series about three teenage detectives who solve crimes in a fictional town in California. It has been going since1979 and is still going today, but after episode 120 it hasn’t been as good anymore.
