22/07/2025

The Penthouse (Dubai) welcomes an Italian powerhouse duo this 26 July! Supernova—aka Emiliano Nencioni and Giacomo Godi—have spent the last decade rising from underground heroes to internationally acclaimed artists. Classically trained and endlessly innovative, the duo blends Chicago house, acid jazz, funk, and hip-hop with precision and soul.

Their standout hit “Beat Me Back” with Kevin Saunderson shook dance floors worldwide, followed by remixes of house classics by Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler, and Jakatta. With chart-topping releases and a steady presence on major stages across the globe, Supernova continue to lead the charge in the international house scene. Their mission? Elevate dance culture with every set.

Q: Please introduce yourself

Hi guys, Giac and Emi from Supernova here - nice to e-meet you! We’re a DJ and producer duo from Florence, Italy, and we've been working in the music industry for over 20 years. We run three record labels: Lapsus Music, Downtown Underground, and Blackboard. We love traveling the world playing House music, and we've had the honor of performing in some of the best clubs around the globe over the past 22 years.

Q: One person you'd dream to have a coffee with?

Andy Warhol. We'd love to ask him if the wild energy and scenes at Studio 54 in NYC influenced his art. The vibe must have been something else!

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

The "hit-maker" superpower - to create a global hit record! Because for us, music is always the answer.

Q: If you would have been given the chance to do a film score, what movie would you choose and why?

The Great Gatsby - we'd love to be in charge of those epic party scenes. We'd definitely bring in some House music to elevate the vibe!

Q: Who has been the most influential in your music career? And why?

We grew up listening and dancing to House music legends like Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler, Inner City, and Harry Romero, just to name a few. During our career, we've also had the chance to remix some of their iconic tracks, like “The Whistle Song” by Frankie Knuckles and “Bar A Thym” by Kerri Chandler. Huge milestones for us.

Q: Tell us about your journey, what got you to where you are today?

Perseverance, passion, and a deep love for music. We’ve always had this drive to do better than we did yesterday, and that mindset has fueled our journey.

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out their career in music?

Find your own sound as a producer. Once you've discovered it, stay true to it - but always stay aware of what's happening in the music scene around you.

Q: Can you recall a DJ set or performance of yours that remains unforgettable to you? Where did it take place, and what makes it stand out among all others?

We’ve played many incredible gigs around the world, but one that stands out is our first time at Elrow in Barcelona back in 2011. At the time, it was still a cool afterparty. We played a very different sound compared to the other DJs, and the Arnau family, who run Elrow, loved it so much that they booked us regularly for the next 10 years. That moment really meant a lot.

Q: How has your music style evolved over the years?

We’ve always tried to stay aligned with the evolution of House music, even when the genre took unexpected turns. Lately, we’re really enjoying the return of authentic House Music. Our current productions are getting strong support from artists like ANOTR, Franky Rizardo, and Dennis Cruz, which feels amazing.

Q: If you were to venture into another music genre, which one would you choose and why?

Disco, Funk, and old-school Hip-Hop. They’re the roots of House music and have such timeless grooves and soul. We’d love to dive deeper into those sounds.

Q: Could you name 3 tracks that got you into electronic music and why?

Frankie Knuckles - Your Love: This track marked a new era in electronic music and still sounds fresh today.

Groove Armada - Superstylin’: We’ve always been huge fans. This track perfectly blends club energy with crossover appeal.

Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy: The depth and soul of this track are truly special to us - it’s timeless.

Q: Can you recommend a hidden gem in your home country that would be perfect for a rave?

Vesper Beach Club in Porto Cervo, Sardinia. It’s a magical venue right on the beach in Costa Smeralda. We handle the music direction there and curate a lineup full of artists and sounds we love. It's truly a special place.

Q: Could you tell us about your upcoming releases and plans for the year?

We just finished a remix for Nick Curly & Gorge, out now on Lapsus Music. Plus, we have a brand-new EP coming on Deeperfect at the end of October - stay tuned!

Q: Can you share a fun fact about yourself that most of your listeners are probably unaware of?

Did you know the name Supernova actually comes from a keyboard by Novation? We used it a lot while producing our first album, Afterbeach, back in 2003!
